Hood Warfare 2 Tips for Beginners

Updated October 14, 2026 · Unofficial fan guide

Quick answer

Learn the maps against bots, stick with the Choppa until its attachments unlock, and run the Snitch and Homies killstreaks. Your first unlocks come at level 5: the Uzi, the Deshawn character and the +Ammo passive. Before you play, update to patch 1.0.1.4, which fixed players getting kicked by the anti-cheat by mistake.

Checked October 14, 2026 against the game's menus in launch-week videos by Legends6K and Ears, the Steam store page and the developer's patch notes.

1. Learn the maps against bots first

You don't have to learn the maps in public lobbies. Set up a custom match: the store page says you can choose the map, the mode and the match settings, then fill the teams with bots. Walk each of the five maps once and look for the indoor routes, because every map mixes street fights with indoor areas.

2. Stick with one gun until its attachments unlock

Attachments come from each gun's own challenges, so switching guns every match slows you down. On the Choppa, for example, the OKP-7 Reflex sight needs 30 headshot kills, the Prism Scope 8 triple kills and No Stock 50 hipfire kills (Ears' video at 14:34). Skins work the same way, from 100 kills with a gun for the first one to 750 for Platinum. Our guns guide has the full list.

3. What do you unlock at each level?

New guns, characters and passives unlock as your reputation level goes up. Level 2 takes 1,000 XP, going by the level bar in launch-week footage. Here's everything we've confirmed:

LevelWhat unlocks
1 (start)Choppa, Glock, grenade, the +HP and +Speed passives, the Tyreese character and all four killstreaks
5Uzi, the Deshawn character and the +Ammo passive
8AKM
10.308 Sniper and the Darnell character
15Pump Shotty and the +Utility passive
20Oldhead
28Mac-10

From the loadout, passive, killstreak and player select menus in Legends6K's video (1:20 to 2:57), recorded at level 1. We haven't confirmed when the claymore and The Nine pistol unlock. If your level suddenly looks reset, see tip 11.

4. Run the Snitch and Homies killstreaks

The Snitch shows every enemy on your team's minimap after just 3 kills, and Homies (5 kills) brings AI gang members to fight for you. Both launch-week players we checked ran those two. For the third slot, the Suicide Bomber at 7 kills is easier to reach than the Drive By at 9. More in our killstreaks guide.

5. Expect fast fights on small maps

The developer says some maps are "inherently very small, so the TTK will be short on maps like supermarket" (patch 1.0.10 notes). That patch moved spawns and added spawn protection, but you'll still die quickly on those maps, so close-range guns like the Uzi and Mac-10 make sense there.

6. Set up your controls before your first match

The numbers come from a streamer's settings video. Our best settings guide has the details and timestamps.

7. Turn down shadows, shading and reflections for more FPS

Hood Warfare 2 runs on Unreal Engine 5, so it's heavier than its price suggests. Turn off HDR, VSync and motion blur, cap your frame rate at your monitor's refresh rate, and lower shadows, shading and reflections first if your graphics card struggles. Not sure your PC is fast enough? Try the Can I run it? checker.

8. Play with friends in a private match

Patch 1.0.1.4 added private matches: create a lobby that only opens with a password, then share it with your friends. See how private matches work.

9. Use voice chat (push-to-talk is on T)

Patch 1.0.10 added voice chat for the whole lobby or just your team. Push-to-talk is on T by default, and you can switch to open mic in the settings.

10. Update and restart Steam to avoid false kicks

On October 13, the new anti-cheat kicked players by mistake, with an error mentioning ImpossibleRpc, TraceStartHidden and ThroughWall. Patch 1.0.1.4 fixed it that evening. Your version is in the bottom-right corner of the main menu. If it isn't the latest, fully exit Steam and open it again. Our updates page lists every fix.

11. Report cheaters, and don't panic if your level looks reset

Use Report in the pause menu for cheaters: the developer says it reviews reports and bans players it finds cheating. If your level or unlocks suddenly look reset, the developer says your progress "isnt reset its just not catching up with the server" (Steam discussions). Players were still seeing it after patch 1.0.1.4, so report it if it keeps happening.

12. Play in the evening, US time

More players online means faster matchmaking. In our hourly Steam readings, the busiest hours are about 7 PM to 1 AM Eastern time, and the quietest are around 6 to 9 AM. Check the live player count before you queue.
